Kids & Teens

Our kids & teens programs aim to develop your child’s love of language and reading, as well as foster their imagination and sense of adventure. There is a fantastic range of activities and events for kids of all ages.

We also have a number of resources for parents and carers to help navigate education and those teenage years.

Baby Bounce

Baby Bounce is for children aged 0 – 3 years, and is held every second Friday at Kempsey Library, starting at 10.00 am. The sessions are interactive, fun, and beneficial to both parent and child.

Summer Reading Club 2024-25

The Summer Reading Club invites kids aged 3-18 years to dive into the enchanting world of books. Be part of this free program designed to spark the imagination and foster a love for reading among children.

Storytime

Storytime sessions have returned to the library and will be held in the Koala Cottage. The sessions include book readings, craft and often a musical activity. The sessions are designed for children aged 3 to 6 years and aim to develop early literacy skills in a fun and social environment.

Digital Kids

Download free eBooks from our range of collections to your tablet, eReader, smartphone, or PC. As well as new releases and best-selling fiction, you can access non-fiction eBooks on many subjects.

School holiday activities

Fun activities for all the kids at the Kempsey Shire Library these school holidays. With stories, songs and craft there is plenty to keep them busy.

Gaming and virtual reality

Drop in to the Kempsey Library to experience gaming AND gaming in Virtual Reality for FREE!
Play Fortnite, Rocket League, Roblox Studio, RuneScape, and more, or jump on the VR headset to explore faraway places.

DolIy Parton's Imagination Library

The Imagination Library is a free booking gifting program for babies in the Kempsey Shire who were born in 2022.

LGBTQ+ reading lists

From memoirs to romances, to action adventure, young adult and teen to kids books too, these books honour the journeys of LGBTQ+ individuals and the movement for love, acceptance, and equality for all.

1000 Books Before School

The program is called 1000 Books Before School. As the name suggests it aims to get kids to read or have read to them 1000 books by the time they start Kindergarten.

Children's Book Week Competition

The theme for Book Week this year is "Reading is Magic". This year the challenge is to 'Choose a magic word from the wordlist, mobile library van or from your library branch. Use this word as inspiration for a short story and an artwork.'
