Watery themed school holiday events at the library filled with fun!

It was a fun filled events program at the Kempsey Library during the Spring school holidays with a host of watery themed events to keep the kids entertained.
Piper the story Dog
A lovely Storytime session with Piper the Story Dog kicked off our Libraries’ spring school holiday program.
“We read 3 doggy stories and then sang some songs. Piper really enjoyed the kids singing, they had her up and wagging her tail!" said Melanie Webb Childrens Librarian.
After story time all the kids had fun with a craft activity creating new breeds of dogs by combining unusual dog head and body combinations in very bright colours.
Coral Reef Craft
After reading ‘Australia under the sea 1, 2, 3’ by FraneĢ Lessac for a bit of inspiration, this crafty group soon got started on their recycled masterpieces. Using egg cartons, Styrofoam and bubble wrap, as well as decorative craft items like pipe cleaners, pom poms and shells, they made some beautiful reefs.
Melanie Webb Childrens Librarian was very impressed with everyone’s creativity, as well as their knowledge about coral reefs. We hope you enjoy these stunning artworks that are teaming with texture, colour, and sea life.
Susea Spray
To top off a great school holidays, we had a visit from Susea Spray, author of ‘A big blue boat’.
Susea had the adults and kids alike enthralled with her stories of her travels around the world in her own big blue boat. They also enjoyed learning sailing actions as we read through her story and sang some songs.
Susea provided a great range of craft activities suited to different age groups and the kids all went home with something nautical inspired.
Thank you to everyone who came along and joined in at one of our school holiday activities in the library. We are pleased to say that our new token system worked well, with all of the library events these holidays being full and plenty of extra space and activities also happening in the Koala Cottage.
